device management, paperless records and secure virtual work spaces can transform the ability for clinicians to deliver care...or create their own problems. my experience in mobile working has shown that perceived ideas on a solution do not necessarily reflect the real world need as viewed by clinicians and nursing staff. academic informatics research having an msc in health informatics gave me an opportunity to look at problems in an analytical way, researching the potential solutions and reporting a conclusion in a measured, balanced way. i published a paper on electronic patient record evaluation in community mental health in 2009, and presented findings at international conferences in the uk and canada. rapid application development rad tools are frequently being made available natively as part of application packages from some vendors while others will ensure that changes are funnelled through the 3rd party themselves. i know what it takes to put a software package together and while i would not consider myself a programmer, i know my way around code. more importantly i also know what is reasonable and feasible when negotiating with vendors to provide value for money to the service. public sector health it there is a sometimes particular way of doing things in the nhs;
